Dave Ward reflects on his friend George H.W. Bush

Two Houston institutions, Dave Ward and President George H.W. Bush have spent the last 50 years in the Houston spotlight.

Bush was first elected to Congress in Houston’s Seventh Congressional District November 8, 1966. Dave started at channel 13 KTRK one day later on November 9, 1966.

However they actually met two years later. While working as a reporter for KNUZ radio, Dave first interviewed Bush in 1964. At the time, the future president was a delegate to the Republican Convention.

“In my opinion, George Herbert Walker Bush was the greatest President of the 20th century,” Ward told the abc13 audience on television earlier this week. “He was the right man to lead this Nation at the right time. He was a Statesman and an American Patriot who lived a life of service to others with great humility and unparalleled compassion. Some have called him the Perfect American. Here in Texas we call him Friend. He meant so much to Houston, to Texas, the Nation and to the World.”
